Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks
Creating Artificial Reefs in the Mississippi Coastal Waters
Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and monitoring fishing reefs off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The foremost intent of the Fishing Banks is to improve Mississippi’s fishing and diving. We work closely together with the help and support from the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) and their Artificial Reef Program to enhance our artificial reefs and marine ecosystem one reef at a time. MDMR in conjunction with Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks has developed 15 permitted offshore reef sites. These sites combined cover approximately 16,000 acres, with sites ranging from eight to 10,000 acres. The sites located north of the barrier islands and consist of concrete rubble. The sites located south of the barrier islands consist of concrete culverts, steel hull vessels and “Florida Limestone” artificial reef pyramids. Our members come from all walks of life including sport fishermen, charter boat skippers, SCUBA divers, commercial fishermen, spearfishermen, or just the average “Joe” interested in Mississippi’s offshore fishing.
All are invited to participate and help out in any way possible!
